So we met our friend and his wife at the Westin hotel on the Magnificent Mile...Michigan Avenue in Chicago. He booked our room for us...and we were flabbergasted to walk into our room and find that we had the Crown Suite. It was a huge suite, with two entry doors. One leads through a short hallway into the living room...it has a huge murphy bed in the wall, couch, 2 chairs, coffee table, big flat screen TV, walk in closet, desk & chair, and full bath...then, connected is the bedroom - with a king bed, another big flat screen TV and another bathroom, and its own door to the outside hallway. The baths were beautiful marble...with dual shower heads...The living room and bedroom make a huge L-shaped suite, with fabulous wrap around views of Michigan Avenue. The decor had a Mid-Century Modern feel...and the room had gorgeous framed B&W photography prints of Chicago architecture. (To See Some Bigger Pics--Go to my Flicker Page)
We had lunch and cocktails at Bistro 110, this little French restaurant which is on Pearson, just off Michigan Ave. I had a French Kiss martinii...Mmm, and the absolute most fabulous Quiche Lorraine I've had in my life--the texture was so light and fluffy! The atmosphere was very cozy & charming, with beautiful artwork. I can't wait to go back to Chicago in the spring and eat there again, when they have seating outdoors.
We shopped most of the afternoon, browsing all the shops on the Magnificent Mile. We rested a bit and then met for cocktails before dinner at The Grill bar in the hotel. I wore my new sexy pointy high heeled shoes and outfit hubby bought me...I felt like Pretty Woman...(except I'm not as tall & thin...as Julia...and not a hooker, lol....) I drank some lovely Cosmopolitans....(Whew these drinks were starting to go to my head!)
We took a cab to Gibson's Steakhouse on Rush Street for dinner. We waited in the bar for our table, and enjoyed some piano music and more cocktails. They seated us at a table by the front window, and the view was awesome. We could people watch, watch limos and Bentleys dropping people off at all the restaurants and clubs. The food was amazing...I indulged in a Chocolate Cherry martinii...Mmmm. It was absolutely decadent!
Hubby and I enjoyed the beautiful night view of Michigan Avenue and the chocolate mints left by the staff on our pillows...before winding down and calling it a night. *Dreamy Sigh*
After dinner, we walked back from Rush Street over to the Drake Hotel and window shopped in their boutiques and lobby...and then on back to the Westin. We stopped back at The Grill bar in the hotel for a nightcap...(By this time I was drinking ice water...I'd already had too many cocktails, and barely remembered the walk back...other than it was freezing cold!).
We got up Sunday and headed for home....decided to stop at Ikea on the way, and found that they were serving Free breakfast platters...lol...Par for the course, I guess...since everything else all weekend was comp'd....except the fab pink leopard scarf I bought at H&M....lol.
Anyway....it was a dreamy, fabulous, luxurious, indulgent weekend!! (I dread the scale at WW next week...but oh well, gotta treat yourself once in awhile!)
