Video Killed the Radio Star....and Facebook is killing the blogs.
I thought it was just me. My imagination. Or Lack thereof, maybe I should say. Since I became a new mom 6 months ago, I haven't had as much time to blog...or some times, to complete a coherent thought.
But no...It's not just me. I think bloggers everywhere* are noticing the trend...traffic to their blogs is slowing down or for some, coming to a screeching halt. Facebook (and Twitter) are taking over the world...and the Blog is becoming a thing of the past.
If you do a Google search for "Facebook Killed Blog" or Facebook Kills Blogs you will find several other articles or bloggers discussing the movement toward social networking sites that allow one to spout random one-liners about what's happening in their day, share quotes, or random song lyrics, promote a business, vent, etc.
Maybe we as a society are changing...as we are busier, more on-the-go, we are becoming more and more demanding of instant gratification, and a forum that doesn't demand so much time, thought and energy as the old blog required? Does that mean we are becoming more lazy?
I am not ready to give up my blog yet....yes, I'm sort of a FB addict too, perhaps. This blog has recorded my stories...my feelings, fears, rants, successes, failures, and the journey to adoption. Too much heart and soul to give it up yet....
What are your thoughts on this?
*Personal General Blogs, mostly, perhaps. I find that some, but not all, topic-specific blogs such as Art related or Adoption blogs, for example, still have a regular following. Maybe it's because of the sense of community among certain groups of bloggers....
