Skin MD Natural +SPF 15 Lotion: Review & GIVEAWAY! (CLOSED)

Giveaway Now Closed! 12 midnite 4/5/2010
Last summer I had a suspicious mole cut off of my thigh by my dermatologist. He said it had pre-cancerous cells and he didn’t want to take any chances. The pitted scar on my leg is an ugly reminder that it could’ve been much worse…and that I need to be more diligent in wearing my sunscreen every day. I also tend to have really dry sensitive skin. Between the harsh Chicagoland winters, crazy hot summers and being a mom who frequently washes her hands until they’re very chapped and cracked - I really need a good daily moisturizer that soothes and nourishes my skin and protects it from the UV rays of the sun. Like many people though, I don’t like the chemical smell of most sunscreen products or how some lotions are really thick and greasy, so finding the right product has been a bit tricky.

When I heard about Skin MD Natural + SPF15, I was really excited to get the chance to try it. I was impressed by the fact that it is a face, hand and body lotion that contains natural ingredients and is hypoallergenic.
Other features:
  • No animal products or testing
  • Fragrance and colorant free
  • Dermatology tested
  • Non-comedogenic
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Paraben free
Per Skin MD Natural - Their +SPF 15 lotion “has a proven UVA protection factor of 5+ (over 5 times greater than the skin's own protection) while the UVB protection is 15+. SPF15 filters 92% of the UVB and delays the onset of sunburn by up to 150 minutes“. Their website also says it’s a Shielding Lotion - “it provides a barrier against outside irritants and elements and keeps the skin’s natural moisturizers in, so the skin can heal itself”.

My Experience
Skin MD Natural was kind enough to send me a full size 4 oz bottle that I’ve been using for 3 weeks now. I’ve found it to be pleasantly light, non-greasy and very hydrating to my skin. It has little or no scent at all, and a little really does go a long way. A dime sized drop covers my entire face, neck, and d├ęcolletage area. I wear it under my makeup and was happy to find that by the end of the day, my face is still soft, doesn’t look or feel greasy and my makeup doesn’t look creased or faded as it has after using some lotions. I’ve also been wearing it on my arms, legs, hands and elbows. I normally have really rough ashy elbows year round. In the three weeks that I’ve been using this lotion my elbows have become very soft and have lost that grayish color. My skin has been softer and less itchy, and irritated. I also have used it on my son, whose Asian skin is very sensitive and prone to Eczema and noticed no adverse reaction, only soft moist skin.

My one concern or a slight drawback is that this product only has SPF 15. I am prone to Melasma (dark spots on the face caused by medications and hormones) and should really use a higher SPF on my face. I don’t believe this product can be offered in a higher SPF due to the natural ingredients used. To that effect, I have layered Skin MD SPF 15 and another higher SPF face lotion on my melasma spots and still had very positive results.

The cost for a 4 oz. bottle is $25 for the +SPF 15 lotion, and $18 for the original Shielding Lotion. It seems a bit pricey--but again, a little bit goes a long way---more so than most lotions and the results are worth it! Skin MD Natural also offers an unconditional guarantee of satisfaction. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product to adults and children alike. You can purchase Skin MD Natural +SPF 15 or original Shielding Lotion at their website or in some local stores.

I like how they use natural ingredients and aren't oily (hate that feeling in a sunscreen). I also like how the lotion filters 92% of the UVB. I need everyday protection, because I often forget sunscreen if I'm only outside for an hour! And that's important!

I've been using a higher SPF so I'll have to try what you recommended on your post...a higher SPF just on problem areas. Good tip! Thanks!

Like you, I have melasma (us fair skinned, freckled women!) and I need something that really truly protects. I like that this supposedly is 6 times the moisturizing power of glycerin. I'd give it a try! Love you!
