Arm.ID.illo Bandz Review & Giveaway {Closed 6/28/2010}

No matter how careful a parent is, things still happen and he or she will face at least one incident where their child wanders off or becomes lost in public. This is a parent's greatest fear--something we all hope and pray to never face, but it happens. A parent can be distracted for literally a second or two at the mall, the park, or zoo and a naturally curious child will wander off, leaving panicked parents frantically searching for their little one.

What can you as a parent, to protect and ID your child in case you become separated in public? What would happen if your child is out with grandparents, or a care-provider and becomes lost? Is your child able to memorize and recite phone numbers of whomever he is with? Can your child bravely and effectively communicate that he/she is lost and describe their parents?  This may be difficult for some kids --especially children with speech issues or children with special needs.

This is where the brilliant creation of Amy and Todd Cameron and Jennifer and Tony Tiberia comes in - The Arm.ID.illo Bandz Child Security ID Bracelet.  If your family is always active and on the go like mine is - you need an Arm.ID.illo Bandz bracelet for each of your children.

The Arm.ID.illo Bandz bracelet is a highly visible, eco-friendly, waterproof, and hypoallergenic bracelet that displays a key contact phone number enabling others to immediately call you and reunite you with your child. This bracelet will help get your child safely back to where he or she belongs!  The bracelet is targeted towards 1-10 year olds as kids in this age range are most likely to get separated from parents at events.

Another cool feature of the Arm.ID.illo Bandz company is their Safe Kids Network - a network of friends where you can get family and children related event information, product reviews, special offers and insightful and helpful articles and advice written by experts in the field. The company's long-term goal is to build this safe network of Arm.ID.illo kids and parents who work together to help families quickly find one another if separated. There is a unique number lasered onto each bracelet that can be entered when signing up for the Safe Kids Network.

Our Experience:
The folks at Arm.ID.illo Bandz were kind enough to provide a bracelet for my husband and I to try with our 2 year old son. The bracelet kit arrived in the nice neat compact plastic container, as shown above. The instruction booklet pulls right out from the lid of the container and is very easy to understand. The bracelet is a soft orange rubber and is adjustable to fit even very small wrists. The kit includes 40 trademarked Pupz (soft rubber badges/tiles with white numbers) that are bright blue and fit into the band to display any full phone number (including area code). There are 4 Pupz in each number 0-9. This makes it easy to change out phone numbers, depending upon who is your child's guardian for the day. The closure buckle Pupz is a larger rubber circle that displays the Arm.ID.illo logo - giving it a really cool, sporty look that kids will love. If needed, you can purchase additional Pupz at the company's website.

The holes in the bracelet are small and the Pupz have a rubber post that fit in. Getting the Pupz into the bracelet takes a few minutes and some patience. I was told that they're purposely made small, to make them stay put - so that they don't fall out and so that children can't easily remove them. It was a bit tricky for me, so I enlisted my hubby's help. Even with his bigger fingers, he was able to get them all in place in a few minutes. The buckle Pupz took a couple extra minutes because the post is a bit larger. Once you've done it the first time though, it gets easier and it's well worth the effort. The bracelet looks so cool and trendy - it almost looks like a watch from a distance.

Our son is 2 years old and is still a bit fidgety, so at first, he kept tugging at it and wanting the bracelet off. I think this is natural because of his age, but I think if you incorporate it into your routine when going to activities and talk about how cool it looks, your child will get used to it, just as they do the straps of a stroller or car seat. Our son has worn it a few times and is getting used to it. We love that the rubber is so soft and comfortable, it looks really cool and can be worn anywhere, including to the water park or beach since it's waterproof. I think other kids will want one too, when they see how fashionable they are. My husband and I love the idea of this product and definitely recommend it. I only wish something like this had been invented sooner - I can recall a time when my niece wandered off in a department store and my sister-in-law and I were frantically searching for her. Fortunately she was found by a salesclerk, just feet away, hiding under a clothing rack. Yikes! It could've been worse...but wish we had an Arm.ID.illo bandz on her that day!

This is an awesome idea. Just yesterday I was scrambling to find something to write my cell number on for each of my 3 kids to poke into their pockets in case we were separated at a local festival we were attending. These are a great option, and I think even my oldest (9 y.o.) would wear one, especially if he's out with someone else who's number he doesn't know!

I think this is a great idea! Affordable, easy and SAFE! I'm forwarding the site to lil' guy's parents so they can order two, one for lil' guy and one for upcoming little sister!

If I won, it would go to my girlfriends Autistic Son. What a perfect idea for him! He wanders.... a lot. And let's face it, Medic Alert's are Fantastic (I wear one myself) but this is cuter, and great for non-medical kids!

What a fantastic product! As a mom, it's a heart pounding, terrifying feeling to think that your child is lost. It happened to me once with my now 11 year old when he was 9 in a very large Walmart. I now have a 2 year old that this would be great for!

I think this is a great idea. I have written my number on the zoo for my kids, but other places don't have bracelets for me to write on.

I think this product is a wonderful idea! I like how they named it after the armadillo because it is a little animal, born wearing a natural suit of armor.
